Spinning Studio - How all the muscles are used
There are several ways that you can change the muscles used while spinning. By alternating between the following methods you can get a full body workout and an all-over toning of your muscles at your local spinning studio:
1. Like most bikes, spinning bikes have variable resistance easily controlled by a turning knob or lever. The resistance is made lighter or heavier changing the position of the flywheel brake.
2. The instructor will also guide the class by changing the speed at which they are directed to peddle. 3. The instructor may also change the position in which the spinning class rides - sitting or standing in various positions. These are often called "Forward" (hands at the front of the handlebars, rider out of the seat), "Middle" (hands in the middle of the handlebars, or "Rear" (hands at the center of the handlebars) positions.
Combinations of the above work different muscles and in different ways, for example:
1. High resistance and rear position builds muscles in the upper legs
2. Low resistance and forward position works the midsection and is more aerobic than muscle building
3. Medium resistance and middle position is a good all around exercise and it tends to work the lower legs well.
All in all, your visit to the spinning studio can leave you in better aerobic shape, but also with noticable muscle tone and greater strength. The fact that spinning can accomplish all of this is much of the reason it has become such a popular choice.
